Documentary on legendary singer Rafi screened

New Delhi, Dec 23 : It was a trip down memory lane for several music lovers in the Capital city today as they remembered legendary Bollywood singer Mohammad Rafi on the eve of his 85th anniversary tomorrow.

On the eve of Rafi's 85th birth anniversary, a documentary on the life of the singer was screened at the Films Division auditorium here.

Titled 'Rafi-Tum Yaad Aaye', the documentary, produced by the Films Division, was screened to a hall filled with Rafi's fans and music lovers.

The film, directed by the chief filmmaker in the Films Division Kuldip Sinha, was also screened at last month's International Film Festival of India in Goa.

Also organised on the occasion was a seminar on the songs and different aspects of the life of Mohammad Rafi where the wife of yesteryears' filmmaker Husnalal, Nirmala Husnalal, former Director of Doordarshan Sharad Dutt, music expert Mukesh Garg, singer Priyamvada Vashisht and several music and film experts participated.

Addressing the occasion, Kuldip Sinha, the producer and director of the short film, said,'making a film on Mohammad Rafi is like an old dream come true.' Sinha said he had been thinking about making a film on Rafi's life since his death in 1980. He had actually discussed with great music director Naushad about his dream project and the music director had promised to give his full cooperation but due to some unavoidable reasons, he could not make the film at that time.

A biography on the life of yesteryears' Bollywood beauty and Rafi's contemporary Madhubala was also released on the occasion.

'Madhubala: Dard ka safar' is the first biography of Madhubala in Hindi and is written by prestigious Bhartendu Harishchandra award winner Sushila Kumari.

'Madhubala is generally remembered for her matchless beauty and seductive smile but very few people know that her life was full of pain and struggle,'Ms Sushila Kumari said on the occasion.
